How to come out as a psychic

So you’ve gathered the courage to tell your friends you’re psychic. Congratulations on coming out of the psychic closet.

With luck, you have generous friends who know you better than you. When you finally ‘come out’, they nod and say, “Yeah, we knew that… About time you came out.”

But what if it doesn’t go so well?

 you told your friends

I remember a networking event where I told my dinner companion I was a psychic and medium. She reeled back like I was contagious and never spoke to me again. it was a long and awkward dinner.

What if your well meaning conversation is mown down with skeptical stares and awkward silences? Worse, what if some “expert” quotes all kinds of facts at you, refusing to back down, till your eyes glaze over and you wish you could click the heels of your red shoes and be home safe?

No one likes to be put on the spot, made fun of, or criticized for their beliefs.

But you’ve been psychic for a very long time, you’re used to living in a world feeling different to most. You probably already have some good coping tools, and you’re already stronger than you know.

How to come out as a psychic

Think back to your life when you’ve always felt a little different. You’re still here and it didn’t kill you. You already are strong, even if you don’t feel it.

Resilience is when we feel strong on the inside, despite jokes and stares. Yes, it can feel hard, but your inner beliefs are going to have to be titanium strong because us sensitives are only 2% of the population.

Resilience means holding strong to those inner beliefs.

If you get smart comments or criticism for sharing your psychic self, thank the person for showing you more places to be resilient. They’ve just helped you get stronger. But what if that smartypants needs an answer?

Pick your battles

Maybe the born again Christian at a work conference doesn’t need the full conversation. It might not be a battle you care to fight. Sometimes it’s best to smile and nod and keep your energy intact. Especially for workplace environments.

If you MUST get in there, be prepared. Have some short facts memorised that will stand strong in the face of any skeptic. At the end of the day, haters gonna hate and a fact fight just demeans everyone. Here’s what I prefer to say:

“Fortunately my friends, tutors and colleagues and I don’t feel that way.”

“Fortunately 2% of the entire western world population and most indigenous cultures are also intuitive.”

Then smile and change the subject.

Accept that some people, often the ones we really really need on our side, can’t or won’t be able to there with us. Ever.

If you keep finding yourself in arguments, endlessly convincing someone I have a question for you. What’s with the bleeding head and the brick wall? What are you really trying to do, win an argument or win approval? It took 20 years before I got this one, and it still trips me up sometimes.

If you’re closest family and friends don’t get you, find some who do. Facebook is full of great psychic groups, like mine, the Psychic Playground.

Luckily we have the internet and Zoom courses as well which means a bunch of people who get you are only a click away. If you’d like, there’s also the Psychic Classroom, where you can find low cost mini-courses and more inspiration:

4 grounding tips for intuitives

When stuff feels overwhelming, but you need to check in with guidance NOW – stop and drop. As an intuitive we learn not to be splattered over the universe if we want to function. Being splattered is draining. Here are 4 tips for grounding…

Intuition for the lazy

Ever wanted an intuitive message and nothing happens? Or the opposite – the mind races round every possible answer and nothing feels right?

Be The Worst In The Room

Worried about being a newbie? Be the worst in the room, surrounded by those to learn from and see how fast things improve.

Straight up psychic -

zero fluff.

Semi fictional story about me: In 1994, I had a midlife crisis, got a boob job and moved to Byron Bay.

Quickly realized there was nothing there but more boob jobs and white furniture, so I escaped faux-spiritual beach culture, went to Peru, and experimented with DMT.

While there, fell in love with a Shaman who was really a plumber from Padstow, but stayed because of attachment issues.

After following a raven out of the jungle, I holed up in a Scandi-style Air B’n’B and finally got enlightened.

Parts of this story are true.

Am I psychic?

Am I psychic?

Mainstream religion and the New Age actively sell the idea psychic ability exists outside of you, or only to a (chosen by them) few. This is a lie. Being psychic is part of being human, so ‘Am I psychic?” YES!
