How to choose the right psychic teacher, and not a creepy one

Ever met someone with a spiritual reputation only to have your inner warning bells go crazy? I couldn’t wait to learn about auras and photo readings and most of all to meet my Spirit Guides – most  of all find a good psiritual teacher.

I got one, all right, but it wasn’t the one I was hoping for! Even though I was an adult, my eagerness blinded me to the B/S. Whatever happened to my inner warning bells, I’ll never know.

I met this psychic teacher..

So I met a spiritual teacher. Some of the things he said seemed… out there… but so much of what I was learning already seemed “out there” and as a newbie I didn’t want to question. All the other students sucked up every word and his Facebook fan page grew and grew.

He had fancy symbols and words for the things he was teaching, and it all looked very impressive, but something didn’t feel right. I’d already had my brush with a cult years ago, and I certainly wasn’t going back to that kind of manipulation.

But somehow his words didn’t match what I was feeling

Much of his ideas were similar to other spiritual stuff I’d read, mixed up with a good dose of mainstream religion.

It almost felt like he’d taken spiritual teachings from here and there, and put his own spin on them. The things he said made sense, logically, but just didn’t feel quite right.

He’d get really angry if anyone questioned the teachings. The more he talked, the ickier I felt, and the harder it was to leave. Even though my spidey senses shouted, “DANGER!”, my logical mind wondered what his fans saw that I didn’t. Was there something wrong with me?

I asked around

So I consulted other psychic friends I trusted. They each confirmed my creeped out feeling. It wasn’t that he was a bad person. It’s just that he had not done a good job of working through his own issues first. His words didn’t match his actions.

There was a huge amount of ego and pride there amongst the channeled info he shared from ‘higher sources’. He may have actually been receiving real guidance, it was filtered through a very human person.

The pole shift that never happened

Fortunately, this guy was not nearly charismatic enough to build a cult, but if he were, it would have been a dangerous combination. One of the last times he talked to me before I blocked him, he said his “guides”  said there was going to be a pole shift in three months and where he lived was going to be underwater, so he was moving inland. Surprise, surprise… it never happened.

But not before he spread fear and instability around the town.

What I learned:

I learned a lot from that guy, most of it was about listening to my intuition and staying observant while open. All spiritual seekers are vulnerable and curious. I was hungry for new info and a teacher, and while my openness was a gift, it wasn’t there to be taken advantage of by power-crazed teachers.

  • I realised my openness was the best thing – it allowed me to integrate new information, with a healthy amount of discernment.
  • I learned that any Spiritual teaching that created a feeling of fear or disempowerment wasn’t the kind of Spirituality for me.
  • I learned not to give my power away to anyone claiming a private connection to higher information that I couldn’t also be part of.
  • I wanted a teacher that showed me how to make that link to the Divine myself – one who shared the power.

You are just as powerful

The truth is, you are just as connected to spirit as they are and you are just as connected to your intuition – it’s only a matter of whether or not you listen to it. And in some instance, your intuition is practically SCREAMING at you to not put your complete faith and trust in something or someone.

How to choose a non-creepy teacher

I hope my story gives YOU the power to choose the right spiritual teacher for you. Use the “sniff test”.  If it doesn’t pass that internal intuitive gate inside, trust that.  No matter how sparkly the words are.

Good teachers thrive on questions and welcome discerning comments. Ask friends you trust before being influenced by shiny fan numbers and promises.

Stalk them a while and read reviews – especially the bad ones – they are truer. There’s no hurry to sign up with anyone. Every “last chance” course is always offered again. With spiritual teaching, the doors are always open.

The doors to free psychic training on my YouTube Channel never close. There’s a selection of short, bite-size and often funny psychic tips and hints. Subscribe and hit the little bell icon and never miss out on another vid.
