I could say you have a Spirit Guide, but how to know for sure? How do you really know if you have a  Spirit Guide? It’s one thing to be told and quite another to experience it first hand.

Even though we all have Spirit Guides who are with us before we’re born and meet us again when we pass, it’s hard to feel that in everyday life. Perhaps it’s one of the first obstacles on the spiritual journey, to trust that idea until finally we can connect to our soul energy long enough to feel it for ourselves. Until then they may feel a little like Father Christmas. 

Spirit Guides hand out spiritual gifts rather than nabbing that rock star car park or a six figure business.

We all have a spirit guide, and it doesn’t matter if you know they’re there or not. In fact, you probably have more than one spirit guide, and they all have separate little jobs to do. A little bit like contract workers. Isn’t that reassuring?

But how to know if you have a Spirit Guide?

I still don’t know who my guides are, even though I’ve been told by very respected people, I’ve always been a sceptic and prefer concrete experiential evidence to fairy stories.

Confirming evidence often comes in the coincidences and passions of our life, and it might manifest as an interest for a particular era, or place. For me it was a a long term fascination with Egypt as a child, to researching Tutenkamen in my teens, to a trip to the pyramids on my bucket list, I know one of my guides is from this land. 

Chances are you’re looking for proof too. You probably have a stack of ‘meet your Spirit Guides’ meditations gathering cyber dust on the phone. They can be fun, but the fun rarely lasts. There’s predictably an enchanted journey to meet the guide in a magical place and then it’s over. It is a mental experience that fades like the memory it is. I must’ve done about 10 myself, all of them disappearing like a dream, to be hardly remembered.  

Recognise a spirit guide by the feeling

There’s a difference between a mental experience and a full body one. A full body experience touches the soul and lives on. There is a feeling that won’t fade, and that’s a more sustainable way to recognise a Spirit Guide. Your guide’s been with you since before you were born. They know you better than even your best friend, or your mother and father, but how much time do you spend nurturing that relationship?

Have coffee dates with your Spirit Guides

Do you set aside time to hang out with your guide?  I know this sounds a bit weird, but it works. Have a coffee date with your guide, set aside time to hang out. It might mean going somewhere quiet and having a coffee, or simply sitting in stillness. A coffee date with your Guide won’t need the phone, so leave that at home. 

It could be as little as ten minutes. Set the intention for them, and say something like: “Hey, I’m dedicating this next 10 minutes to you, who ever you are,”  letting go of any outcome. No need to reach for messages and images, just share sacred time. Connecting to our Guides and Helpers is a two way thing. We’ve got to give them air time so that they can have a chance to communicate to us.

Watch for signs, symbols, coincidences

These are the way Spirit Guides communicate. Look back on the passions and fascinations of your life. Was it a particular point in history you couldn’t read enough about? Did you love certain movies that featured a culture or a time? Where’s your bucket list of destinations?

What books filled your shelves as a child?

These are all pointers to who your Guides may be. Now it’s time to pick up the spirit phone by setting aside time to listen to them. Having a Spirit guide means we learn to listen with the ears of our soul and that’s only done in the quietness of a non busy mind. If you’re waiting for them to appear in a puff of pink smoke, you might be waiting a little while. Usually it’s a lot more subtle than that.

You may or may not even know who they are, but that does not stop them from working with you. And when I say them, there is a few more than what you think. You’re never alone and you’re always loved.
